Every day until Christmas Day we’ll be posting an interiors object or gift idea for the design lover in you, as part of our very first Interiors Advent Calendar. So, keep coming back every day for new ideas!
On our 11th day, we figured that books can make fabulous Christmas presents – provided you pick the right one. And published works about iconic fashion designers are always an excellent option, hence our choice today – Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.
This beautiful book was designed by Charlie Smith and it was published to accompany the eponymous V&A exhibition dedicated to the legendary fashion designer back in 2015. Dressed in an elegant snakeskin style cover, this definitive publication on Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) invites readers into the creative mind of one of Britain’s most brilliant, daring and provocative designers.
‘Fashion is a big bubble, and sometimes I feel like popping it,’ McQueen said back in 2009. This statement is accompanied by over 440 striking images, from intimate backstage portraits and editorials by leading fashion photographers to previously unpublished sketches and research boards from the McQueen archive, as well as 28 ground-breaking essays from expert fashion commentators and cultural scholars.
At the centre of this book is a Cabinet of Curiosities gatefold with a specially commissioned photo shoot that showcases McQueen’s breath-taking attention to detail. This is perhaps one of the best Christmas present ideas we’ve come across so far, so head on to the V&A website for more details.
